The Akaushi cattle breed – said to produce the “world’s healthiest beef” – originated in the Kobe area of Japan in the mid-20th century.
It is one of four breeds of Wagyu cattle that were officially recognized in 1943 as Kobe beef, the super-healthy meat that grew in popularity from the 1980s onwards.
In 1994 a loophole in the Trade Act between the United States and Japan allowed a small number of Akaushi cattle to be flown to America on board a specially-equipped Boeing 747.
Some of the cows and bulls that were flown to America were considered so valuable they received an armed guard in the fields for several years.
The animals are said to be ‘butterscotch’ in color. At the Milanesi Farm they graze on the natural grasses of South Carolina.
What sets the Akaushi cattle apart is the intense marbling throughout the meat, making it one of the highest-quality meats in the world.
We are members of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Cattlemen’s Association, and the American Akaushi Association, plus owner Monty Milanesi is a Master Cattleman from Clemson University. Any time you order your meats from us, you can rest assured that you’re getting the best of the best and totally authentic Farm to Table Akaushi beef.
As of right now, we are offering individual cuts of beef. The bulk meat cuts that you get can be stored in the freezer for up to two years, so you won’t run the risk of wasted food.
We are now selling 1/4 and offering individual cuts of beef.
Our prices are based on the hanging weight of the pasture fed beef, the slaughter and butchering, as well as the vacuum sealing and packaging. With every purchase, a USDA inspector will inspect the meat, and you will have the opportunity to let the butcher know exactly how you want it cut.
